Abstract

English becomes one of compulsory subjects in Indonesia education system. The complexity of writing skill leads to students’ difficulties in writing English. Understanding student’s learning style preference should give the teacher clues to help them face difficulties in doing writing. From that case, the writer did a research to find out the effectiveness of VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic) learning style in teaching writing procedure text. To gain the objectives, the writer conducted an experimental research. The research design was a quasi-experimental research; non-equivalent control group design. The writer used purposive sampling to determine the sample. The results of this study showed that the mean score of the pre-test in the experimental group was 59.8, while in the control group was 58.5. However, the result of post-test is increased. In the post-test, the mean score of the experimental group was 72.2 and the control group got 67. Moreover, tvalue exceeded ttable (2.310 > 2.023), which meant that there is a significant difference of writing achievement between two groups. In conclusion, it could be proven that the VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic) learning style is effective in teaching writing procedure text.
