Abstract

This final project deals with the social problems and the causes that reflected in Slumdog Millionaire movie. This research focuses on finding out the social problems encountered by the characters and the causes of social problems in the movie. In this final project I used descriptive qualitative method and sociological approach to analyze the film and the phenomena happened in the film and compared with the condition of the society around us. By descriptive qualitative research we can also understand relationship between behavior and outcome of the part of the society. In this research I investigated the dialogue and scenes which related with this study. I observed the data by watching the film, selecting the data, identifying, inventorying and classifying the data. This research has result that there are three kinds of social problems which are happened in the movie. It is found that discrimination, children trafficking and violence are the problems which described in this movie. The problems in this movie caused by social jealousy and moral degradation of the slums society in this film, and the impacts of the social problems are the crime in the society, juvenile delinquency and physical violence. In this research discrimination viewed as the basic of problem in the society that influenced by social status, power, education background, salary income, the life condition and the wealth which influence the someone’s prestige and existence in the society.
