Abstract

Professional nurse education is an academic-professional education that implements and prepares students to become professional nurses ready to enter the working world. Hence, during their education, the students carry out a series of learning activities that support their competence and profile as professional nurses. Nurses are required to perform professionally when providing nursing care. The implementation of nursing practice is based on the authority given because of their expertise. This study aimed to develop a scientific-based clinical learning model for medical-surgical nursing in professional nurse education. This study used research and development design. By identifying the current conditions, it was possible to develop a hypothetical model and conduct trials to obtain an appropriate model form. The results showed that applying scientifically based clinical learning management models to medical-surgical nursing can improve clinical competence that combines cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. Clinical skills learning outcomes were achieved above the average assessment standard. It could be concluded that developing a clinical learning management model based on scientific medical-surgical nursing in professional nurse education can be implemented. The model is said to be effective, efficient, and practical in supporting the achievement of clinical competence. Suggestions for educational institutions and practice areas can apply this model and make guidelines or standards for scientific-based clinical learning in medical-surgical nursing. The recommendations of this model can be applied to nursing practice courses and other practice areas.
