Abstract
This research discussed the representation of Environmental degradation as an impact of consumerism in The Simpsons Movie Script. This research aims to identify the signs of Environmental degradation as an Impact of consumerism that have been found in The Simpsons Movie Script and to describe the Environmental degradation as an impact of consumerism as represented in The Simpsons Movie Script. This research used qualitative research methods and Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. Peirce’s semiotics used by the researcher is a triadic model consisting of three components; representamen, object, and interpretant. The findings of this study showed that there are sixteenth signs related to the Environmental degradation as an impact of consumerism in The Simpsons. The signs were analyzed by the first modeling signifying system. And the second signifying system consists of icons, indexes, and symbols. Each sign found is described iconically, indexically, symbolically which can be seen from the interpretation of the signs of Environmental degradation as an impact of consumerism in The Simpsons Movie Script.
