Abstract

Song, which become a literary works that is most closely related to humans, can give two possibilities, positive or negative impact. This research is conducted to see the meaning of the song entitled Under the Same Sun by Scorpions, especially, to see the concept of peace and humanism inside the song. In conducting the research, descriptive qualitative research as the methodology and a theory by Michael Riffaterre namely Semiotic of Poetry is used due to the close structure of song and poetry. The research is conducted in some steps. The first step is the heuristic reading to get the meaning based on a system of language conventions. The second step is hermeneutic reading which focus on symbols and imagery. The third is to find the matrix, models and variants in order to see the structure of the lyrics. The last step is to find hypogram in order to answer the second research question. The result of the research shows that peace and humanism inside the song is related to a Marxist Humanism. Furthermore, the song entitled Alien Nation is concluded as the influence of Under the same sun.
