Abstract
This study aims to find out the result by applying Communicative Language Teaching in finding moral values of Bruno Mars’ songs to improve students vocabulary mastery of eighth grade students. It was done at the SMP N 10 Semarang in the academic year 2022/2023. This study used Communicative Language Teaching as the method and Bruno Mars’ songs as a media. The eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Semarang were chosen as the population of this study. The data consists of the result of the pre test and post test for the control and experimental group. The data were analyzed to know whether this combined of method and media is effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery or not. The study shows that by applying Communicative Language Teaching in finding moral values of Bruno Mars’ songs is effective to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The analysis showed that the result in pre test and post test of each group have a significance difference. In the control group, the mean of pre test is 45.375, and the mean of the post test is 53.75. And for the experimental group, the mean of pre test is 44.93, and the mean of the post test is 80.53. Another proof also can be seen in the result of the result of t test, which sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00<0.05, it means that there is significance difference between the students who are taught by using Communicative Language Teaching in finding moral values through Bruno Mars’ Songs and those who are taught by using traditional method. The suggestion in this study is intended for the teachers, the students and the other researcher. To the students, the use of Communicative Language Teaching and Bruno Mars’ songs, makes the students feel enjoy with the learning and teaching setions, and it makes the students easier to understand and memorize the material given. Then for the teacher, the use of songs, also can give a good impact for the students, which the students can enjoy the teaching and learning process. Therefore, it will be better for the teachers to know and understand how to manage this method and media and do any evaluations which are useful to improve the method and media, also improve students’ vocabulary mastery. And the last for the other researcher it can be a kind of reference for them to make further researches and they should check first the materials that will be given to the learners so that the result will be good.
