Abstract
This research discussed the intertextuality in the fairytale Beauty and The Beast by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot De Villeneuve and Lutung Kasarung by Reza Daffi. This research aims to identify the elements of intertextuality, describe intertextual relations, and explain intertextuality's cultural aspects in Beauty and The Beast and Lutung Kasarung. This research used qualitative research methods and applied Julia Kristeva’s intertextuality theory to find the hypogram and transformation text of Beauty and The Beast and Lutung Kasarung. The findings of this study showed that there are six similar elements found in Beauty and The Beast and Lutung Kasarung. Intertextual relations between Beauty and The Beast and Lutung Kasarung can arise due to the influence of the spread of Indonesian literary culture, which Europe influenced due to the colonialism of the Dutch East Indies. Cultural aspects related to intertextuality found in Beauty and The Beast and Lutung Kasarung are the phenomena of Stockholm syndrome.
