Abstract
This research analyzed how spontaneity and interactivity were realized in students‟ transactional conversations. The participants of the study were students of the Petroleum Study Program at PEM Akamigas Cepu. This research analyzed five conversations carried out by the students of the petroleum study program. The data was collected through recordings. The recorded files were further transcribed, and the researcher selected, counted, and reported the transcription data. The transcription of the conversation was analyzed regarding its spontaneity and interactivity features, referring to the suggestion theory. It was found that chunks were the most frequent spontaneity feature found in the students‟ conversations and that students used them to quickly recall common combinations of words. As for the interactivity features, the most commonly found was a discourse marker used by students to keep the information flowing during the conversation. Spontaneity and interactivity features were indeed found and used by the students for some specific purposes. It is suggested to expose learners to the appropriate use of spontaneity and interactivity.
