Abstract

Termites are social insects whose main diet is cellulose and lignocellulose found in rotting wood, leaf litter, and some fungi. With the increase in the area of conversion of the Mount Ungaran area, the termite habitat becomes increasingly narrow and reduces food sources for termites. The purpose of this study was to analyze the species of termites found on Mount Ungaran, the factors that influence their lives, and the differences in species on each slope and altitude. This research was conducted in three stages, namely termite collection, termite identification, and data analysis. The species found in this study were Coptotermes curvigathus, Odontotermes javanicus, Macrotermes gilvus, Nasutitermes Matengensis, and Bulbittermes constrictiformis. Based on the Shanon-Wiener analysis, the West slope has the highest Diversity Index with 4 environmental factors (soil pH, soil temperature, soil moisture, and rainfall) that most influence it, while in the Canonical relationship Correspondence Analysis of soil pH, light intensity, and canopy cover is environmental factors that are most related to the diversity and abundance of termites on Mount Ungaran. The conclusion of this study is that the difference in slope causes differences in termite richness with the most associated environmental factors being soil pH, light intensity, and canopy cover. The benefit of this research is to provide information about biodiversity data and the distribution of subterranean termites in Mount Ungaran, Central Java, Indonesia.
