Abstract

This study uses psychoanalysis approach especially Sigmund Freud theory of personality and defense mechanism which focus on the impact of Borderline Personality Disorder in the main character in All the Bright Place Novel. Theodore Finch is the main character in the novel who suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder. The study is carried out to find out how Borderline Personality Disorder affects the individual into lead them into suicide. Qualitative descriptive method used in the study as its research design and document analysis also note-taking as its research instruments. The findings indicate that Finch is struggling to survive because he has a traumatic past events. Finch develop the criteria of person who suffers Borderline Personality Disorder, they are dependent, mood swing, unstable relationship, and impulsiveness. Then, Finch also uses defense mechanism to get over the anxiety. The impact of Borderline Personality Disorder which represented by the main character are lack of social life, poor self-esteem, and suicidal tendency. Meanwhile, suicidal tendency is the worst impact which experience by person who suffers Borderline Personality Disorde
