Abstract
The general election (pemilu) is a process carried out by the people to elect people who will represent the government, both at the central and regional levels, for a term of five years. History records that Indonesia has held elections 12 times between 1955 and 2019. During that time, elections were always colored by the abstention movement. Golput is an acronym for the white movement, a term that refers to a movement not to vote or participate in elections. The Golput movement has developed from time to time. In 1971, for example, Golput became a political movement to fight against the dominance of Golkar's power in Indonesian politics. The longer the Golput movement became more and more political. In the city of Semarang in 1992 the Golput movement became a political movement involving the people, academics, and students. The city of Semarang was chosen because this city became one of the epicenters of the Golput Movement. This is evidenced by the existence of the "Golput Court" in Semarang which is widely covered by the media. This study seeks to reveal the history of the Golput movement in Indonesia by focusing on the 1992 elections in Semarang City.
