Abstract
Character values that are implemented and integrated into all subjects are expected to fulfill the goal of being able to grow the good character that exists in students. Likewise with history subjects, where studying history can be used as a basis or basis for self-reflection so that the next generation of the nation does not forget how the values must be applied in life. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factual condition of the character of the students of SMA Negeri 1 Kendal, to analyze the integration of character education through history learning at SMA Negeri 1 Kendal, to analyze the role of history learning in strengthening the character of students at SMA Negeri 1 Kendal. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data sources used were informants from history teachers and students of class XI Mipa 1-2 and XI IPS 1-2, history learning activities, and historical document studies. Data collection techniques in this study used in-depth interviews, observation, and document review methods. Test the validity of the data using source triangulation and method triangulation. Data analysis used is data collection, data reduction, data presentation and verification or drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that: (1) The factual condition of the students' character is generally good, but there are still some attitudes that are not appropriate and must be given character strengthening. (2) The integration of character values into history learning through learning tools, learning materials, learning methods, media, discussion activities, and direct examples given by history teachers. (3) The role of historical learning in strengthening students' character is very important from the values that can be taken during learning, it is seen that students' attitudes change to become more polite, responsible, and have enthusiasm in participating in history learning. Suggestions for teachers should teachers provide more motivation for students to be more enthusiastic and not bored to follow history learning. The delivery of historical material should not be monotonous using the lecture method and Microsoft Power Point only. With more diverse and varied methods and media, students will be able to think critically, be brave and be more active in expressing their opinions.
