Abstract
Morphological analysis is one of main areas in studying vocabulary. It is the process of breaking a word into a fundamental element (roots and affixes). This descriptive qualitative research aims to find out the types of derivational affixes and determine how the affixes change the base word's meaning. The present study uses the video of Mark Zuckerberg's speech about Free Expression as the object. The researcher analyzes the data by applying the theory of derivational affixes type by Jackson and Amvela (2007) and the affixation process by several linguists. The result shows that there are two types of derivational affixes; classchanging and class-maintaining. In the class-changing type, there are 30 affixes which consist of 11 affixes in the noun-forming category, four affixes in the verbforming category, 14 affixes in the adjective-forming category, and only one affix in the adverb-forming category. Then, there are 11 affixes in the class-maintaining type, including six affixes of noun pattern, three prefixes of verb pattern, and then two prefixes of adjective pattern. The affixation process shows that affixes change a base's meaning by attaching to the base at the beginning and the end. They produce a specific meaning when they attach to it. Moreover, they always affect the base word's meaning but not always for its part of speech. All suffixes have the capacity to change the word class of the base word in which they are added. Whereas many but not all prefixes do not have the potential to change the wordclass of the base.
