Abstract

This study aimed to find out the translation techniques used by the translator in translating Kathryn’s The Help from English to Indonesian. The writer used Molina and Albir’s translation techniques to analyze translation techniques in Kathryn’s The Help. This study used a qualitative research to describe the result of the analysis of translation techniques in translating Kathryn’s The Help. In this study, the data were taken from the original English novel published by G.P Putnam’s Sons publisher since 1838 and the Indonesian translation published by Matahati in 2010. The data were collected by selected the dialogues found in The Help both of English and Indonesian novel. After that, the writer analyzed and classified translation techniques based on Molina and Albir (2002). Then find the dominant translation techniques. There were 1830 data analyzed are found from English into Indonesian. 18 translation techniques from Molina and Albir, the translator used 17 techniques. The findings of the analyzing were as follows: adaptation with the frequency of 1 data, amplification with the frequency of 127 data, borrowing with the frequency of 104 data, calquewith the frequency of 46 data, compensation with the frequency of 1 data, description with the frequency of 1 data, discursive creation with the frequency of 147 data, established equivalent with the frequency of 130 data, generalization with the frequency of 7data, linguistic amplification with the frequency of 193 data, linguistic compression with the frequency of 243 data, literal translation with the frequency of 656 data, modulation with the frequency of 21 data, particularization with the frequency of 10 data, reduction with the frequency of 114 data, transposition with the frequency of 22 data, variation with the frequency of 10 data. Based on the findings above, the translation technique mostly by the translator in translating Kathryn’s The Help was Literal Translation.
