Abstract
This study aims at explaining how dominant/subordinate relationship is reflected in each Fifty Shades of Grey and Story of O and how the idea in the more recent novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, deconstructs the idea in the earlier novel, Story of O, in relation to dehumanization within dominant/subordinate relationship. This study is a qualitative research adapted from Creswell, relying on the textual analysis and cultural contexts by applying Derrida’s approach in deconstruction. The data are collected by selecting, identifying, inventorying, classifying, and selecting the words, phrases, clauses, utterances, and sentences taken from the objects of this study which are Fifty Shades of Grey and Story of O novels. The results of this study show that the ideas of a respectful dom/sub relationship in Fifty Shades of Grey; anti-abuse/non-abusive, consent and willingness, priority and appreciation, deconstructs the ideas of dehumanization in Story of O; abuse, coercion and manipulation, and human degradation.
