Abstract

Happiness is something felt and perceived differently by each person, because the measurement of happiness is a subjective thing. Semarang see economic growth tend to fluctuate over the last 5 years and the highest decline in 2009 amounted to 5.34%. But in 2010 and then increased growth with the economic growth rate of 5.87%. However, the high economic growth of Semarang leaving a gap issues such as poverty and other social problems. The study aims to assess the public happiness index Semarang. This research is a study where the data sources obtained from a number of 404 samples taken by the method of two stages stratified random sampling. There are ten domains / variables essential that reflect the level of happiness of the individual, include: (1) health, (2) education, (3) household income, (4) the environment and security, (5) the family harmony, (6) social relations , (7) the availability of free time, (8) Home and assets, (9) affection, and (10) the joy of life. The results showed that the happiness index of Semarang residents amounted to 71.55 on a scale of 0- 100. This means that if the value is closer to 100 scale, it shows the level of life is the happier and vice versa. Of the 10 variables has been calculated, Family Harmony Perception variables have the greatest contribution to the value of 77.35. While variable Education has the smallest contribution to the index value of 61.34.
