Abstract

The learning independence of students is closely related to the learning motivation of students. Learning independence and learning motivation possessed by students have an important role in helping students to achieve their learning success, in this case, increasing their critical thinking skills. The objectives of this study are (1) to determine the direct effect of independent learning on learning motivation; (2) to determine the direct effect of learning motivation on critical thinking skills; (3) to determine the direct effect of independent learning on critical thinking skills; and (4) to determine the indirect effect of independent learning on critical thinking skills with learning motivation as an intervening variable in elearning learning in economics. This research is a quantitative research with a survey approach. This type of research is ex-post facto. The population in this study were all students of class X IPS totaling 177 students, with the sampling process using simple random sampling. The size of the sample size is determined by the calculation of the Slovin formula with an error rate of 10%, in order to obtain a sample of 64 students. The analytical method used was the normality test, linearity test, multicolonierity test, heteroscedasticity test, t test, path analysis, and descriptive analysis. The results showe that independent learning has a positive and significant direct effect on learning motivation by 78,3%. Learning motivation has a positive and significant direct effect on critical thinking skills by 61%. Learning independence has a positive and significant effect directly on the ability to think critically by 28,9%. Learning independence has a positive and significant indirect effect on critical thinking skills with learning motivation as an intervening variable of 47,8%. Suggestions in this study are that students are should improve good learning independence and be able to increase good learning motivation, so students will be able to improve good critical thinking skills as well. For future research, the habit of learning should be explored more.
