Abstract

Sunan Drajat Islamic boarding school was founded in 1977 by KH. Abdul Ghofur. Aside from being an educational institution and the Da'wah boarding school Sunan Drajat is also known as an entrepreneurial boarding school. The purpose of this study include: (1) knowing the history of the Sunan Drajat boarding school in 1977-2015, (2) knowing the role of the clerics in the development of the Sunan Drajat boarding school, (3) knowing the involvement of the surrounding community in the development of the Sunan Drajat boarding school. This study uses the historical method, which consists of five stages, namely the determination of topics, heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that (1) in 2008, the Sunan Drajat Islamic boarding school experienced very rapid development since the pesantren opened its Higher Education Institution, the Islamic High School of Raden Qosim. (2) the important role of the kyai in the establishment, growth, development, and management of a boarding school is the most essential element (3) the involvement of surrounding communities in the development of Sunan Drajat boarding schools in the social, economic, religious, educational, and cultural fields. The conclusion from this study shows that the Sunan Drajat boarding school was established in 1977 by KH. Abdul Ghofur and experienced very rapid development in 2008. The development of the pesantren Sunan Drajat had an impact on the surrounding community including community social relations getting stronger, deeper knowledge of religious knowledge, the level of public education becoming higher and economic life getting better and growing values pesantren culture.
