Abstract
This study aims to know how the achievement of semantic equivalence in translating the Indonesia subtitle of The Post movie. This study was descriptive qualitative research. The data on this research was the original English dialogues and the Indonesia subtitle of The Post. In analyzing the translation strategies of the dialogues, Newmark‟s theory was used as the reference. This research found that word, clause, phrase, and sentence level used in the subtitle of The Post movie have high semantic equivalences. In the total number of data 536 dialogues for the subtitle analyzed which classified into four classifications, there are 70 dialogues categorized as a word, 26 dialogues categorized as a phrase, 32 dialogues categorized as a clause, and 47 categorized as a sentence. The result of the analysis of word shows us that 63 were found to be equivalence while 7 were non-equivalence. In phrase terms, 30 were found to be equivalence while 1 was non-equivalence. In clause terms, 24 were found to be equivalence while only 2 were non-equivalence. In the last one sentence terms, 46 were found to be equivalence while only 1 was non-equivalence.
