Abstract
The tomb of King Amangkurat I is cemetery of King Amangkrat 1 and it is a site which influences the creation of Pesarean Village’s name. The tomb of King Amangkurat I is still visited by pilgrims until now, even there are different backgrounds of King Amangkurat I in society. The present research aims to (1) find out the reasons why King Amangkurat I was buried in Pesarean Village, Adiwena Sub-district, Tegal Regency, (2) find out the process of pilgrimage activity in the tomb of King Amangkurat I, (3) find out the reasons of the society in visiting the tomb of King Amangkurat I. Research method used in this research was Qualitative Research Method. The concept used to analyze research problems was Pilgrimage Joel W Palka (2014) and Religious Emotion Emile Durkheim (2011). The location of this research was in Pesarean Village Adiwerna Sub-district Tegal Regency. The main informant was pilgrims of the tomb of King Amangkurat I who came on Sunday morning, night before Friday kliwon or nights except Friday kliwon, the key of informant in this research in this research was the caretaker (abdi dalem) of the tomb of King Amangkurat I, the supporting informants were Pesarean village chief, parking officers, and people around the tomb of King Amangkurat I. Data collection method used observation, interview, and documentation of pilgrimage in the tomb of King Amangkurat I in Pesarean Village Adiwerna Sub-district Tegal Regency. Validity data was used by triangulation technique with the sources. Data analysis technique included collecting data, reducing data, presenting data and making conclusion or verification. The result shows that (1) the background of the burial of King Amangkurat I was based on two different versions, the first version was that King Amangkurat I was King Amangkurat who allied with the Dutch and another version explained that King Amangkurat I would like to ask for help to Adipati Martoloyo in Tegal, (2) pilgrimage was done as an effort to strengthen religious emotion equipped with material element of the tomb of King Amangkurat I, (3) the purpose of pilgrims arrival were to meet their common interests (interest of social institutions) and to worship the ancestors and they will be able to make spiritual peace from pilgrims. The suggestion of the researcher in the present research is given to the Government of Tegal Regency to do various activities in order to preserve the tomb of King Amangkurat I in Pesarean Village Adiwerna Sub-district Tegal Regency by involving various elements of the society, so that there is no one who does not know the background of King Amangkurat I.
