Abstract

This research is a case study with the exploitation and the psychological effects of exploitation resulted in A Little Princess novel. This research focused on finding out the effect of exploitation that influenced psychology of children by the characters and the cause of exploitation in the novel. The objectives of this research were (1) to find out the reflection of children exploitation that occurred in the novel (2) to find out the factors causes of exploitation that happened in the novel (3) to find out the effect of exploitation to the children psychology. There were several methods used in this research: research instrument, method of data collection, method of research, and method of approach. In this final project I used descriptive qualitative method and psychological approach to analyze the novel and the phenomena happened in the novel. The methods of data collection were observation the novel, reading the novel several times carefully, listing, collecting, computing and reporting. The writer found the previous studies related to children and the supporting data to answer the research questions. The results of this research were: exploitation happened because of some factors, there are economic / poverty, education and migration factor. The children who got exploitation would have a different development from others children. By studying and analyzing A Little Princess, the writer hoped that the findings of this research could be used as a reference for those who are interested in analyzing a novel, especially a novel about children and their problems, and also could enrich our knowledge about the relationship between literature and reality. Besides, this research could stimulate a further research related to the relationship between literature and reality in other aspects of life especially about children.
