Abstract
Everyone has personal life that have implied in their minds. Most of it are inspiring them that need to be reflected, such as on diary, agenda, etc. As the authors who have much imagination, their personal life can be reflected into their literary works. Regarding to this conception, the main focus of this study is to elaborate the meaning of the author’s literary work, Hans Christian Andersen, his personal life reflected into his literary work, a fairy tale of The Nightingale, through his biography, The True Story of My Life as the object of my study. In this final project, I employ a descriptive-qualitative method due to the result of the analysis that needs to be explained for a clearer conclusion. The analysis involves interpretational qualitative data which are interpreted and reported descriptively. The approach I use psychoanalysis which is introduced by Sigmund Freud. In conducting my analysis, I use several steps. Firstly, I read the fairy tale of The Nightingale and the author’s biography several times carefully and thoroughly. Secondly, I identify as well as classify the data I found in the fairy tale and biography. Finally, I analyze the selected data one by one and reports the findings in order to find out the meaning of the author’s literary implied in the object of the study. Based on the analysis, the writer finds that there are symbolic meanings of the fairy tale of the nightingale which based on our cultural and historical tradition. Related to the personal life of the author, some of the cultural and historical traditions in symbolic meaning are reflections of the authors’ personal life. The nightingale which has symbolic meaning, the natural beauty of life resembles the character of a singer whose personality had inspired the author’s life. After analyzing the author’s literary work based on his biography, the writer concludes that the symbolic meaning of the fairy tale in some ways reflects the author’s personal life.
