Abstract

Osteoarthritis then shortened with OA is degenerative disease. Prevalence of knee OA in the Orthopedic Hospital Prof. dr. R. Soeharso Surakarta in 2008 of 0.95%, in the year 2009 was 1.54% and in 2010 amounted to 1.62%. Formulation of the problem in this study is whether there is a relationship between exercise habits and physical activity risk weight associated with the occurrence of knee osteoarthritis. The research design used in this study is a case control study design. The population of cases in this study were female patients suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee, amounting to 573 people. Data obtained from the patient's hospital medical record. Orthropedi Prof. dr. R. Surakarta Soeharso of the month from January to July 2012. Population control in this study were female patients who have a fracture of the leg but did not suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee that has been confirmed from the medical records of patients who totaled 234. Data obtained from the patient's medical record section RS Radiology. Orthropedi Prof. dr. R. Soeharso Surakarta in 2011 until 2012. Sampling in this study using simple random sampling technique. The results showed that the analysis of the relationship between exercise habits with the risk of incident knee osteoarthritis obtained value of p = 0.538 (> α 0.05), so that Ho is accepted. This means there is no association between exercise habits with the risk of incident knee osteoarthritis. The results of the analysis of the relationship between physical activity with incidence of severe knee osteoarthritis obtain p-value = 0.0001 (<α 0.05), so Ho is rejected. This means that there is a relationship between physical activity with incidence of severe knee osteoarthritis.
