Abstract

The final project intends to analyze Mayan intelligence which is described in the film “Apocalypto “and also the influencing factors of Mayan intelligence. Intelligence is one’s level of experience capabilities to solve problems faced and to anticipate problems that will come. The objectives of the study are to describe Mayan intelligence and show the influence of environmental aspects to their intelligence in Apocalypto film. To collect and analize the data, I used qualitative method, because it focuses on data in the form of scene, words, phrases, and dialog of the film. The result of the study shows that Apocalypto told about what the influencing aspect of environmental condition to the Mayan intelligence, especially Mayan tribe in Guatemala, Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. There are two factors that influencing Mayan intelligence, physical and social environment. The factors have an equally important role in shaping and improving the potential of Mayan intelligence. The physical environment influence on Mayan’s creativity in creating their characters and traditions, while social environment give effects on how they have their behavior by understanding their social life. However, physical environment give a major influence without put the influence of social environment aside. Finally, for the readers who want to analyze the same topic, I suggest to study about the historical of Mayan with the specific topic “Archeological history as Reflection of Mayan Intelligence”.
