Abstract

In the world there are phenomena of people who gain knowledge in different ways. The first phenomenon is fortune tellers who use their knowledge to be their main jobs to survive, by helping local communities. The second phenomenon is indigo children who acts more mature than his age and has a high intuitive ability. Usually he does not want to be treated as a child. They are generally not easily governed by a rule, not easy to compromise; some of the indigoes have emotional and vulnerable bodies. However, indigo children also have some positive characteristics which can play a role for other people as described in The Sixth Sense. The reason of choosing the topic of the final project is because the indigo phenomenon is often seen in television and media so I am interested to analyze it. The purposes of writing this final project are: (1) to find out the characteristics of indigo described in The Sixth Sense film, (2) to find out what the extra ability that the indigo child has in the film, and (3) to know whether the statement of the indigo child is in line with reality or not. I collected the data through some steps namely watching, reading, identifying, inventorying, and selecting data from the movie. Then, I tried to analyze and interprete the collected data to do the report of the study. I also used theory of psychoanalysis and indigo children to support the analysis. Those were taken from books and articles that had relation with the movie. From this study, I find that (1) the characteristic of an indigo child based on The Sixth Sense film are freak and extremely emotional, (2) the extra abilities that an indigo child has in The Sixth Sense film are the role in investigating the death of a ghost of a woman ghost, the death of many people, death of a young man, the death of a young girl, and the death of a lady, (3) in the analysis of an indigo child’s statement whether they are in line with reality or not, there are two statements as the examples of the indigo child’s statement related to his extra ability and two statements which do not support the extra ability of indigo children. So, not all statements of indigo children can be proven that they are in line with reality. I suggest that future researchers who conduct the next research with the same topic should find more relevant references that support the topic.
