Abstract
This final project is an action research. It was done based on the students’ learning problems in senior high school. Students had difficulties in writing, especially in composing sentences and choosing the appropriate words. These difficulties are also faced by students in writing texts. The students do not master the aspects in writing so that they do not write texts well. Based on the reason, I would like to solve the students’ difficulties in writing texts, especially recount texts by writing diary using Suggestopedia. Diary is an example of personal recount which has the same character with recount text. Suggestopedia is one of teaching methods which applies the principles of humanistic approach. It considers that students are the priority in the learning process. One of features of suggestopedia is the use of music in the learning process. Students are asked to choose one of their interesting experiences and write it in a diary while listening to the classical music. The objective of the study is to identify the students’ improvement in writing recount text using suggestopedia in writing diary of the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Gubug. The methods for collecting the data were observation, test, and questionnaire. In collecting the data, I conducted test. I gave a pre-test to know the students’ knowledge about recount texts before giving the treatment. In the second activity, I asked the students to choose and imagine one of their interesting experiences while listening to the classical music. Then, they wrote their experience in a diary. In the last activity, I conducted a post-test to know the students improvement after getting the treatment. The average of the students’ result in pre-test was 54.285%. In cycle 1 test, the students’ achievement was 62.171%. It can be stated that there was improvement but it was not significant. The students’ achievement in the post-test was 72.228%. It means that the students’ achievement in writing recount text was improved because the result of the post-test was better than the pre-test result. Based on the study, it can be concluded that suggestopedia in writing diary is effective to improve the students’ ability in writing recount text. I hope this technique can be used by the teacher in teaching writing recount texts.
