Abstract
This final project is an experimental study that answers the three research questions: (1) how the wall magazine could be applied to improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text for the tenth grade students, (2) how effective the use of wall magazine gives contribution to improve the students’ ability in writing narrative text for the tenth grade students, (3) how the significant difference of students’ achievement in the improvement of students’ writing ability between those who were taught by using wall magazine and those who were taught by using picture is. The answers were proven through a research. In the research, the subject of the study was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Weleri in the academic year of 2009/2010. There are two groups used in this research: the experimental group and the control group. The two groups received different treatments. The experimental group was taught writing narrative text by using wall magazine, while the control group was taught by using pictures. The data were collected through a writing test. To obtain the data, the writer carried out three steps: pre-test, activities in experimentation, and post test. In the pre-test, the result of the two groups was nearly the same. The mean score of the experimental group was 45.95 and the mean score of the control group was 45.65. The very slight difference between the two groups indicated that the two groups were homogeneous. After receiving the different treatment, the two groups got the different results. The post-test mean score of the experimental group was 67.86 while the mean score of the control group was only 57.43. The significant difference between two groups showed that the use of wall magazine in teaching narrative text was effective. The conclusion taken from the research is that wall magazine gives contribution in teaching writing narrative text to the tenth grade students of Senior High School. The students can use the wall magazine as a medium to share the ideas with others. Publishing can be a great motivator for students to increase the students’ interest and performance in the writing skill.
