This study mainly described about the idioms found in “Eat Pray Love” novel by Elizabeth Gilbert. I used descriptive analysis in conducting the research due to the aim of this study in analyzing how the English idioms are translated into Indonesian found in the novel Eat Pray Love. These strategies are suggested by Baker (1992): (1) using an idiom of similar meaning and form, (2) using an idiom of similar meaning but different form, (3) translation by paraphrase, and (4) translation by omission. Among some problematic factors in translation, the current project was going to concentrate mainly on the strategies of translating idioms. The topic came in useful to help Indonesian learners who are studying English as foreign language, particularly in concerning idiom. I limited the study in English idiom found in the novel and the strategies that the translator used to translate the English idiom into Indonesian. The result of the study was expected to give some benefits. The benefits such as improve the learners understanding especially the idioms, giving the writer a comprehension of English idioms’ meaning in Indonesia, and also giving information about the strategies can be applied in translating idioms into target language. I applied some steps in collecting data. The first step was reading through the novel. By reading the novel both in English and in Indonesian version, I was able to obtain the data. The next step was marking sentences with idiom inside. The second step was collecting idioms. In collecting the data, I typed the English sentences with idiom along with the Indonesian translation. The third was analyzing the data found in the novel. The fourth was comparing the English idioms with the translation in Indonesian to know the strategies that was applied to translate the idioms. The last step was analyzing the data found in order to explain how the strategies are used in translating the English idioms. The result showed that there are two hundred and twelve idioms in the novel along with the strategies used. Fourteen idioms are translated using similar meaning and form, eleven idioms are translated using similar meaning but dissimilar form, twenty two idioms are translated by paraphrase, and one hundred and sixty five idioms are translated by omission. Based on the result of the study, I concluded that there are four strategies used in translating the idiomatic expression in the novel based on the theory. The most strategy used is translation by paraphrase, the second is translation by omission, the third is using an idiom of similar meaning and form, and the last is using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form.
