Ahmad Sofwan, Ph.D. Keywords: Structural Analysis, Similarities and Differences of Novel and Movie Versions Novel as a literary work has some structural elements such as characters and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, style, and theme. Nowadays, there are many novels performed in a movie. This adaptation can help the readers of the novel to comprehend the story easily. Like a novel, a movie also has some structural elements such as characters and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, casting, mise en scene and design, sound, symbol, and theme. The aims of this study are to describe the different structure that build the novel and the movie by observing the novel entitled Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban written by Joan Kathleen Rowling and the movie with the same title which is directed by Alfonso Cuaron, and identify comparison between the novel and the movie versions. The type of the data that is used in this study is the novel, movie screen, and movie script. That data is needed to observe the structural analysis both versions of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with the secondary data dealing with J.K Rowling’s work and other sources from the website and literature based on movie versions of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The result from this study, the researcher found the similarities and the differences in both versions. There are many similarities between the novel and the movie versions. They use the same title in both versions that is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the same major characters and characterization, setting of place, plot, and diction. The differences that researcher found in this comparison shows the distinction that are usually happens in the performance of the novel into the movie such as in the minor characters, setting of time, point of view, and theme.
