Abstract

The use of model and media during the learning process can be the essential factor of succesfull learning process. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) with Scientific Approach Assisted by Augmented Reality (AR) in improving the student’s critical thinking ability and interpersonal skills. This study uses a quasi-experimental research design. The population in this study were students of grade V at Gugus III Jampang. The sample of this study was students of grade V at SDN Jampang 03. Class VA as the experimental class and class VB as the control class. Data was collected by tests, observations, and questionnaire. Data analysis techniques used prerequisite tests, descriptive tests, independent t-tests, and percentage analysis to determine the mastery learning and student responses to the learning process. The results of this study indicate that: 1) There is an increase in the critical thinking ability of experimental class students by 37,90% and student completeness has increased of 56,66% after learning; 2) There is an increase in the critical thinking ability of control class students, namely by 15,52%, and student completeness increases by 16,67% after learning; 3) The average of student’s interpersonal skills in the experimental class was 83,41%, which is categorized as good; 4) The average of student’s interpersonal skills in the control class was 76,58% which is categorized as good; 5) There are significant differences in the critical thinking ability and interpersonal skills of students in the experimental class and the control class; 6) The data also showed that 92% of students gave very good responses to PBL with scientific approach assisted by AR. The PBL learning model can be used as an alternative in learning process. In addition, teachers can also develop and combine teaching media with the PBL learning model to be able to further improve student’s critical thinking ability and interpersonal skills.
