Abstract

Education is required to produce human resources who have the ability to face the challenges of the 21st century, namely critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. Learning science requires the ability to think logically and systematically to solve problems. Students need communication skills to make it easier to complete their work. The better the communication skills the better the learning activities. This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills and communication skills of fourth grade students. The research used is qualitative. Data collection techniques with interviews, observation, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. Data validity by triangulation of data sources. The results of this study are (1) Teacher preparation before learning activities, namely understanding student characteristics, determining material, determining learning strategies, determining evaluation procedures, preparing teaching tools such as Prota, Promes, ATP, teaching modules, and teaching media. (2) Implementation of classroom learning is packaged in an interesting way using a talking stick learning model assisted by poster media because it makes students think critically, be active and improve communication skills. (3) Factors that influence students' critical thinking skills: a. cognitive abilities; b. physical condition; c. anxiety; d. motivation to learn. Factors influencing communication skills: a. level of self-confidence; b. readiness c. family habits; innate nature; e. anxiety; f. physical condition; (4) There are three categories of critical thinking skills, high, medium, and low. high percentage of 22%, medium 52%, and low 26%. Communication skills have a high percentage of 13%, medium 65%, and low 22%.
