Abstract

Reading comprehension is a prerequisite and a success factor for students to continue to the next school level. Reading comprehension is a prerequisite and a success factor for students to continue to the next school level. Low reading ability as an indicator of low literacy is a challenge in Indonesian language learning content. Therefore, learning strategies or methods are needed that can support success in improving students' reading comprehension skills. The problems in this research are (1) analyzing the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills through the CIRC ( Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ) method and based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students, (2) analyzing the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills through the SQ3R ( Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review ) method based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students, (3) analyzing differences in the effectiveness of skills reading comprehension through the CIRC method ( Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ) and the SQ3R method ( Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review ) based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students. The objectives of this research are (1) to analyze the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills through the CIRC ( Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ) method. and based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students, (2) analyzing the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills through the SQ3R ( Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review ) method based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students, (3) analyzing differences in the effectiveness of skills reading comprehension through the CIRC method ( Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ) and the SQ3R method ( Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review ) based on the learning styles of fourth grade elementary school students. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control design . Sampling in this study using purposive sampling technique. The samples used in this study were students at SDN 1 Rumak and students at SDN 2 Rumak. Data analysis techniques used validity and reliability tests, while to test the sample using normality and homogeneity tests. Final data analysis used the t test to determine the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills and the ANOVA test to determine the difference in effectiveness between the two methods. The results of this study were (1) the average result of students' visual learning styles in the CIRC class was 80.63 while the kinesthetic learning styles in the CIRC class were 83.36. The independent t-test results show a sig = 0.000 <0.05. So learning outcomes mean the average learning outcomes of CIRC classes with visual learning styles are different from those of kinesthetic learning styles. (2) the average result of the visual learning style students in the SQ3R class is 81.15 while the average result of the kinesthetic learning style in the SQ3R class is 78.11. The independent t-test results show a sig = 0.000 <0.05. So the average learning outcomes of the SQ3R class with a visual learning style are different from those of the kinesthetic learning style. (3) based on the results of the ANOVA test on the learning style line, it shows that the value of sig = 0.036 <0.05 means that there are differences in learning outcomes based on learning styles. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that (1) reading comprehension skills using the CIRC method are more effective for kinesthetic learning style learners, (2) reading comprehension skills using the SQ3R method are more effective for visual learning style students, (3) reading skills understanding using the CIRC method is more effective than the SQ3R method based on the learning styles of students. The suggestions in this study are (1) educators should use the CIRC learning method for kinesthetic learning style students and the SQ3R learning method for visual learning style students. (2) educators should be creative and innovative in using learning methods that are appropriate to the situations and conditions of students so that they are more motivated and support the activities and learning outcomes of students so that the learning process is not focused on educators only but rather moves students to be more active during the learning process going on.
