Abstract

Career maturity is an important requirement for individuals to plan and prepare themselves to enter the world of work. Low career maturity is the main factor that causes individuals to hesitate in making career decisions. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of group counseling using symbolic modeling techniques and problem solving techniques to increase student career maturity. This study used a quantitative experimental method with a randomized pre-test post-test comparison group design. The purposive sampling technique of 145 students was used to select 24 experimental subjects randomly placed into three groups so that each group consisted of 8 students, data collection used a career maturity scale of 35 items, a Likert scale of 1-4 with a score range of 70-105. Scale reliability based on an alpha value of 0.785 and validity based on item correlation between 0.176 – 0.513 data analysis using Repeated Measures Mixe Anova data test with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 20. The results of this research show that the guidance of the Symbolic Modeling technique group has a value of (F(1.65) = 120.56; p<.001), a problem solving technique has a value of (F(1.18)=118.84; p<.001), a combination technique has a value of (F (1.09)=121.64;p<.001) towards increasing career maturity in students and there are no differences in effectiveness and groups seen from the Berween effect. (f(2)=151>0.05 and there is no interaction effect between measurement time and group seen from within subjects effects (f(2.62)=.009>0.05). The conclusion from this study is that the use of group counseling with symbolic modeling techniques, problem solving techniques, and combination techniques is effective in increasing career maturity in students but with different paths in the use of implications in each technique. so that further research is expected that this combination technique in guidance practice is highly recommended in the implementation of career guidance and counseling services.
