Abstract
This research purposes (1) to determine the comparison of students‟ learning outcomes that using graphic organizer with critical thinking skills and without using graphic organizer with critical thinking, besides this study also (2) to find out the effectiveness of the use of graphic organizer with critical thinking skills to enhance students‟ writing ability. This study was conducted for eleventh-grade students of SMA N 1 Kendal in the academic year of 2021/2022. It was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control group design involved 70 students from two groups, 11 IPA 3 as the experimental group and 11 IPA 4 was control group. The experimental group was students taught using graphic organizer with critical thinking skills whereas the control group was not. After the data were tested, it found that the data were homogeneous and normally distributed. To find out the results, the data were analyzed using Independent t-test and N-Gain test. The results show that there are significant differences in the students‟ learning outcomes between the students in the experimental and control groups. It can be seen by the significant value that was 0.001<0.05. Besides, it also found that graphic organizer with critical thinking strategies was effective to use in teaching writing analytical exposition text. It shows by the average value of the N-Gain score in the experimental class was 83% which was included in the effective category. It can be concluded that the use of a graphic organizer with critical thinking skills as strategies in teaching writing is effective to enhance students‟ writing ability.
