Abstract

The unexpected COVID-19 pandemic happened in the second quarter of 2020, causing a lockdown in several areas. For that reason, public places, including schools, are forced to close so that students need to learn by distance using online learning. This study aims to show teachers' plan and learning process using Google Classroom in learning interpersonal written text for eighth-grader students at SMPN 3 Semarang. Besides, this study also aims to analyze students' and teacher's perceptions of it. The participant of this study was an English teacher and 100 students from SMPN 3 Semarang. This qualitative study gathered the data by analyzing the lesson plan used, observing the process of learning, and distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews for both teacher and students. For analyzing the data, this study used the standard rubric of the lesson plan by Nunan (2003) and Brown (2001) and standard rubric from Permendikbud, analysis of the field notes, and percentage result of questionnaire along with the interview result with thematic analysis as the complementary data. The result shows that the lesson plan used by the teacher in this learning has already been appropriate even though the process of the learning was not implemented fully and more likely different from what has been planned. Also, the majority of the students have a positive perception of using Google Classroom in learning interpersonal text. It goes the same with the teacher's perception, which showing positive perception. By gathering the students' information, some of them suggest that it would be nice if the learning process in distance learning for interpersonal text rather than only having assignments and tests. They thought having a video learning from the teacher will make it easier to understand.
