Abstract

Herningtyasari,G. 2010. The Compatibility of Writing Exercises for the Year Eight of Junior High School Published By Erlangga and School-Based Curriculum, 2007. Final Project. English Department. S1 Degree of Department. Advisors: I. Dr. Dwi Rukmini, M.Pd. II. Dra. C. Murni Wahyanti, M.A Key words: reseach, analysis, curriculum This study describes the writing exercises in the English Textbook of English On Sky 2 for Junior High School Students Year VIII published by Erlangga In conducting the research, I used a descriptive approach and documentation method since the purpose of the study is to describe the relevancy of the writing exercises in the text book to the School-Based Curriculum in terms of clear direction, provision of model, and types of writing. In analysing the data, I took some steps. First, I took the copy of the textbook. Second, I analyzed the data by choosing all kinds of writing exercises relevant to the School-Based Curriculum. Third, I categorized them in the tables in terms of its relevancy to the School-Based Curriculum, clear direction, provision of model, and type of writing. At last, I gave the interpretation of the relevancy beetwen the writing exercises and the School-Based Curriculum in terms of clear direction, presence of sample, and types of writing. The result of the analysis showed that four writing skills demanded by the School-Based Curriculum are included in the text book. There are 92.4% of writing exercises relevant to the School-Based Curriculum. 97.2% of them have clear directions, 52.3% of them have models, and 86.2% of them are guided. Based on the result of study, I conclude that there is a relevancy between the writing exercises in the the textbook and the writing skill demanded by the curriculum in terms of clear direction, provision of model, and whether they are guided or free writing.
