English is an International language for most people in the world. Considering the importance of English, the Indonesian government has included it in the school curriculum. The government always makes an effort to increase the quality of education in general and English teaching in particular. Through the education process, it is expected that there will be a significant process to the learners. In order to achieve the competence that is expected in the learning process, students need practices and also look for some information. One of the effective instruments to achieve that competence is by using textbook. A textbook is the course of the study, the guide on methods of instruction and the source of language activities and practice exercises. In order to achieve better in achieving the competence, a qualified textbook is needed. Deciding the qualified textbook can be seen by many researchers. One of those researchers is the teacher. In this study, the writer decides to analyze the English textbook by using teacher’s perception. The writer chooses Semarang city, the capital city of Central Java as the objective of this study. The writer views that Semarang is one of region or city that produced its own textbook. Thus, the writer selects the 2nd grade of Junior High School’s English textbook to be analyzed. The method data analysis used in this study was Descriptive Statistic approach. Here, the writer used questionnaire as the method of collecting the data. The population was English teachers of grade VIII Junior High School in Semarang. The writer took sample as the representative. The sample was 20 teachers of VIII grade state Junior High School in Semarang. The result showed that 2 teachers (10%) argued the textbook was very good, 8 teachers (40%) scored good, 9 teachers made perception it was moderate, a teacher had perception it was bad, and no teacher argued it was very bad. The mean score of the quality of the English textbook published by Semarang City Government was 136.75. Based on the category that has been made, it was included in good category. It meant, according to teacher the English textbook published by Semarang City Government is good. The writer suggests that the authors of the textbook need to concern and develop in some aspects that still in moderate category without put aside the others categories that were included in good category. For school especially teacher and student, based on the result of the study showed that this textbook was included in good category. The writer suggests that it is possible for teachers and students to use this textbook in daily learning activities.
