Key Words: Trauma, Military, Aceh, The Red Net The final project intends to analyze traumatic disorder found in The Red Net short story by Helvy Tiana Rosa. The story portrays the situation when Aceh was declared as Military Operation Zone (Daerah Operasi Militer; DOM) in 1989-1998. people who live in the period have witnessed and experienced the violence conducted by the military that lead them to get through trauma. The aggression to eradicate anyone suspected as a supporter and member of a Free Aceh Movement (Gerakan Aceh merdeka; GAM) conducted by the military has big effects to the society like refugee, widows and orphans. The object of this study is The Red Net, a short story. The method applied in this final project was qualitative. The data of the study were in the form of phrases, sentences and dialogues. The procedures of collecting the data included reading, identifying, inventorying, and then reporting the data. There are some results found. First, the story portrays symptoms of traumatic disorder shown by the main character. They are sadness, anger, avoidance, less of control, re-experiencing trauma, fear and anxiety, and trouble-concentrating. Second, the traumatic disorder appears after the main character has witnessed and experienced the assault which causes her to suffer from losing of her beloved people and witnessing horrible death. Third, we can learn from the short story that spiritual and material supports such as love, sympathy and care can rebuild the main character’s confidence to be respected and accepted in the society. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be concluded that the military has victimized people in tackling the rebels in Aceh which makes the main character get through the traumatic disorder. On the basis of the conclusion, the suggestion is offered. The government should take the non-violence way to overcome conflict with civilian. The military stationed in the conflict area should pay attention to human rights in conducting the duty to alleviate the violence. To maintain justice for the victimized people, there must be investigation of human rights violation. Last but not least, we need to treat traumatized people with respect and dignity to help them overcome trauma.
