This research focussed on how to improve speaking skills level of the grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngadirojo Pacitan. The research was aimed at finding out the students‟ speaking skills and the appropriate teaching technique to improve students‟ speaking skills. There were two problems in this research, namely : How can the interactive activities be used to teach speaking skills? To solve the research problem, I conducted a classroom action researh with grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngadirojo Pacitan as the subjects, the numbers of the participants were thirdty-seven students of class X3. There were three cycles in this classroom action research. The data were obtained by making use of the observation checklist and recording. The results of the research showed that, interactive activity can improve students‟ speaking skills. Those activities were describing picture, playing card game, role play and simulation. There were also some media used to support those activities. They were some picture, cards and visual aid for roleplay. Those activities could motivate the students to speak up in English during the teaching learning process. From the result of the research, I suggested that a teacher should implement interactive activities technique in speaking class. A teacher should also modify the activities to avoid the students bored, afraid and less motivated to take part of speak in the class. It is also suggested that the teachers used interactive activities as an alternative way for English teaching learning process, especially in speaking skills.
