Final Project Faculty of Language and Arts. Universitas Negeri Semarang. Adviser: Girindra Putri Dewi Saraswati S.Pd., M.A. This research explored how learning Autonomy in speaking Englis can be fostered by using voice note recorder as a media tool and how it can reduce foreign language anxiety. The participants of the research were 45 youth speaking English autonomous learners who had been using voice note recorder in the English community through social media Whatsapp and Twitter. This study used qualitative method research and the data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The finding showed that the effect of the use of a voice note recorder gave the learners moderate levels of anxiety with scores falling on 3-4 in the interval scale. However, the interview gave a positive result as the learners still describe the experience better than conventional learning. Another finding also showed that the participants agreed that the role of voice note recorder supports the autonomous English learning process. The last finding from the interview also reported detailed information that the use of voice note recorder did help reduce anxiety. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of voice note recorder into autonomous spoken learning environments could give a supportive and anxiety-reducing atmosphere and trigger the learners learning autonomy.
