Abstract
Translation is a conduct to change the language of a text material to another language. As learner who learn foreign language such as Japanese, we would definitely encounter several occasions which may demand us to translate a text from Indonesian to Japanese or the opposite. Moreover, with the increase import activity of Japanese goods such as comic and novel which needed to to be translated day by day, Indonesian-Japanese translator became profession with high-demand in Indonesia. Yet, translation is not easy thing to do especially for amateur translator who do not posses sufficient proficiency on translaton techniques. Even learners such us only know basic translation and not proficient on various translation techniques. Without sufficient qualification translator may translate incorrectly and make text’s meaning become shift or even entirely change. . Based on that reason, comprehension regarding translation technique for translator is very vital. This raises the author's thought to study more regarding translation technique especially about meaning alteration which caused by translation techniques. The existence of meaning alteration prove that translation not always about ‘only using dictionary to translate’ but translation could shift or even change the text meaning depends on translation technique which translator used. This study intends to elaborate deeply regarding various translation techniques which translator use to translated Boku No Hero Academia comic from Japanese version and Indonesian version. This study uses qualitative approachment and description analysis to analyzed translation techniques which caused meaning alteration on comic. The reason author choose comic as study object was due to comic is combination of pictures and text which make it easier to analyzed not only from text but also picture which showed various situations in the comic. Boku No Hero Academia choosen among numerous comics was because Boku No Hero Academia is one of the most popular comic in Japan and Indonesia, so it makes reader familiar regarding translation techniques which translator used in the comic. The analysis method used in this study was by using various translation techniques to classify meaning alteration data based on the techniques which make it accured, then describe the reason of the occurrence in the technique’s prepective. The translation techniques used as analysis reference in this study were 15 translation techniques written in “Pengantar Ilmu Menerjemah” by Rudi Hartono (2017) which consist of Borrowing, Calque, Literal, Transposition, Modulation, Compensation, Adaptation, Description, Discursive Creation, Established Equivalent, Generalization, Particulation, Reduction, Substitution, Variation. Moreover to describe the the reason why translator used choosen translation technique author also using ‘data table’ to show the analysis from each data of translation techniques. The results showed there were 403 meaning alteration data caused by seven translation technique in Boku No Hero Academia comic. Out of 15 tranlation techniques used in this study only 7 techniques which used in the comic. There were 139 cases of Compensation, 93 cases of Modulation, 28 cases of Transposition, 51 cases of Description, 47 cases of Reduction, 19 cases of Generalization, and 26 cases of Particulation.
