Abstract
This descriptive qualitative research is intended to analyze the types of translation techniques used by the 5th-semester English Education Students Of UNNES in translating a news text entitled 3 dead for critically wounded in a shooting at Copenhagen Mall. The data of this study were gained through a translation test, involving 34 students from class 503 as the subjects. This study is limited to analyzing the techniques used to translate an informative text. The data were analyzed through 1.258 sentences and was found a total of 3.391 translation techniques applied. From the results, it can be seen that fourteen of the eighteen translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) are discovered in the data, namely: established equivalent, borrowing, literal translation, calque, amplification, linguistic compression, transposition, particularization, linguistic amplification, reduction, modulation, generalization, discursive creation, and description. Whereas, the most frequent technique applied was literal translation with a percentage of 25,10%.i
