Abstract

In Indonesia, teaching reading for English language learning can be generally included in the teaching of reading comprehensions. This is because one of the goals in learning English in Indonesia is to improve the skills of learners, who have been able to read in their first language or foreign language. English in Senior High School also force the students to be able to comprehend the text because most of the learning materials of English in senior high school is from the text. However, creativity might improve the reading comprehension ability. Therefore, this study aimed to find the relationship between the creativity and English reading comprehension of the senior high school students. This study was the quantitative with survey design. The primary data of this study were gathered by using questionnaire and reading comprehension test. The questionnaire used to find the data about the students’ creativity, it called creativity attitude scale (CAS) developed by Munandar(1977) as cited in Fitriani (2018). Then, I used the test to find the data about the students’ reading comprehension ability. There were 25 students participated in this research. The finding of this study showed that (1) The students’ creativity of the eleventh-grade students of SMA N 2 Temannggung in the academic year 2021-2022 was considered to very high and high category; (2) The reading comprehension ability of the majority of the eleventh grade students at SMA N 2 Temanggung in the academic year 2021/2022 is on average level; (3) There is very strong relationship between students’ creativity and reading comprehension with rxy= 0.829. This finding shows that creativity is important to improve students reading comprehension.
