Abstract
This study was conducted to describe the authenticity of English language assessment. There were some indicators of a good assessment. Those are practicality, validity, reliability, authenticity, and washback. Authenticity was one of the most important characteristics to be concerned with. This study aimed to investigate the task authenticity and text authenticity of English language assessment designed by PreService English Teachers of Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) of Universitas Negeri Semarang in 2019). The research design used for this study was qualitative research. The result of the analysis was presented descriptively. There were 12 English language assessments designed by Pre-Service English Teachers of Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) at Universitas Negeri Semarang in 2019 used in this research. I analyzed the data by using two theories. The first theory was the theory by Brown (2004), this theory was used to analyze the task authenticity of English Language assessment. Then, the second theory used in this research was the theory by Will (2018), this theory was used to analyze the text authenticity of the English Language assessment. The research findings prove that relevant topic and real-world representativeness indicators meet the highest authenticity in the percentage of 100%. They followed by natural language use in the percentage of 97% and meaningful topic in the percentage of 83%. Besides, the assessment text achieves 90% in the criteria of provenance and 97% in inherent textual qualities. In short, the researcher calculated the percentage of task authenticity (95%) and text authenticity (93, 5%). So, the authenticity of the English Language assessment designed by the Pre-Service English Teacher of Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) at Universitas Negeri Semarang in 2019 is considered 94, 25% authentic. In conclusion, the English language assessment meets high authenticity both in task authenticity and text authenticity. However, the pre-service English teacher should more pay attention to and improve their skill in designing assessments to make them to be a great teacher generation in the future.
