Abstract

This study provided an analysis of translation strategies usage in English – Indonesian machine rendering of Youtube video titled “Could Your Phone Hurt You? Electromagnetic Pollution” in Kurzgesagt channel. The method used in this study wass descriptive qualitative method. Fifteen translation strategies proposed by Molina and Albir, Hatim and Munday, and Bosco as quoted in Hartono (2018, p.29-42) were used to analyze the machine rendered subtitles and two adapted instruments were used to rate the translated subtitle. This study showed three of the fifteen translation strategies are unused (Transposition, Variation, and Substitution). The most used and the least used strategies found are Literal Translation with 81 data (57,45%) and Generalization and Particularization each with 1 data (0,71%) respectively. Data concluded that despite some minor error and some deviation in meaning, all in all the video was able to be fully understand and the meaning of the video can be transferred.
