Abstract
Language is one of the aspects that affected by globalization. The Indonesian government has mandated that English need to be included in all Indonesian school learning processes. Here, textbook plays an important role alongside the curriculum. However, the textbook must be in line with the components stated in curriculum being used. This study provides an analysis of materials in the textbook related to basic competences. The objective of this study is to analyze the relevance between materials in the textbook with basic competence in 2013 curriculum based on theory of Anderson and Krathwohl's (2001) taxonomy of cognitive domain and Simpson's (1972) taxonomy of psychomotor domain. The data were taken from student textbook English in Mind Second Edition Student's Book 1 Grade VII for Junior High School. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Observation checklists form and document analysis was the instruments used to collect the data. The results of this study showed that in term of cognitive domain, there were 11 materials in the book which were relevant or about 50%, 5 materials which were partly relevant or about 22.73 %, and 6 materials which irrelevant or about 27.27%. Meanwhile, in the term of psychomotor domain, there were 12 materials in the book which were relevant or about 57.14%, 4 materials which were partly relevant or about 19.05%, and 5 materials which were irrelevant or about 23.81 %. Based on the results above, it indicated that the textbook has applied more relevant materials of psychomotor domain rather than cognitive domain. It is also shown that the textbook does not support many cognitive domains and only some psychomotor domain activities. Thus, it can be concluded that the materials in this textbook material are relevant with 2013 curriculum, in terms of psychomotor and cognitive domain. Even though, it still needs some improvements in terms of relevant materials of cognitive domain.
