Abstract
If a person is able to memorize a large vocabulary, it will be much simpler for them to read, write, listen to, and speak English. One of the challenges that comes with developing language skills is the limited amount of time and place in which English can be used as a communication tool. The ability to understand reading will affect students' absorption during learning. Teacher can apply teaching methods by applying a new method or using an application for improving reading comprehension skill. This study aims to seek for the effectiveness of using Wattpad application in improving tenth grade students’ reading comprehension skill. Wattpad is a site for reading and writing that can be easily accessed by anyone, anywhere, anytime. The data collection for this study was done using a quantitative research methodology. The instrument used in this study is a questionnaire, which was applied to determine the impact of applying Wattpad in the reading comprehension skill. My research findings indicate that the application Wattpad can improve their reading skill. It can be seen in the result of mean control in the control class and experimental class which showed the score of 11.84 and 12. After the implementation of Wattpad application, their mean controls increased to 18.36 and 25.86. It means that their ability in reading comprehension get higher score than before the treatment. The Wattpad provides various types of stories, students have more diverse sources of story reading and along with the increasing number of quantitative stories students read, students will be better prepared to comprehend and identify the central theme of the narrative through increased training.
