Abstract

The gross regional domestic product of the food crops sub-sector is a measure of the role of the food crops sub-sector in the economy. Food crops can be interpreted as plants that produce a source of three main nutrients, namely carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Food crops are one of the main commodities consumed by humans as food consumption. The contribution of the agricultural subsector has experienced a downward trend in 2015-2021. This also happens in terms of growth. The decline in the contribution of the agricultural sector in economic theory is considered reasonable because the economy will move from a traditional to a modern economy, but that does not mean that the volume of the economy will not grow. Indonesia is a country with the fourth largest population in the world, so the role of the agricultural sector, especially food crops, needs to be maintained in the economy. This study aims to examine the determinants of GRDP in the food crops sub-sector in Indonesia. The method used in this study is quantitative by using panel data regression analysis to analyze the effect of agricultural investment, farmer productivity as measured by added value per worker, harvested area, and machine unit sales as indicators of agricultural mechanization on GRDP in the food crops sub-sector. The type of data used in this study is secondary data in the form of panel data consisting of time series data for 2015-2021 and cross sections of 34 provinces in Indonesia. The results showed that agricultural investment and harvested area were significant to the GRDP of the food crops sub-sector, while farmer productivity as measured by value added per worker and machine units were not significant to the GRDP of the food crops sub-sector. The R2 value is 0.992827, meaning that the independent variable can explain the dependent variable at 99.28%. Based on the research results, the suggestions given by researchers to the government in Indonesia in increasing the activity and volume of GRDP in the food crops sub-sector are good management and cooperation in agricultural investment by facilitating licensing, reducing bureaucratic obstacles, providing data/information regarding potential and investment opportunities in the agribusiness/agro-industry sector and improving infrastructure. In overcoming limited land can be overcome through intensification.
