Abstract

Indonesia exports nutmeg to several main destination countries, including China, India, Vietnam, the Netherlands and the United States. However, in recent years, Indonesia has lost markets in Vietnam, the Netherlands and the United States. On the other hand, demand for Indonesian nutmeg in China and India has increased significantly. As one of the largest nutmeg exporting countries in the world since the colonial era. The purpose of this study is to determine the competitiveness and position of Indonesia's nutmeg exports in the five main destination countries and to analyze the determinants of export growth. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with RCA, ECI, EPD, and CMS analysis methods. The data used in this study include: Indonesia's export value of nutmeg in destination countries, world export value of nutmeg in destination countries, total Indonesian export value in destination countries, total world export value in destination countries, data used for 2010-2020. The results showed that Indonesian nutmeg in the Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese markets was quite competitive both comparatively and competitively. Indonesia is also in a Rising Star position in the Chinese and Indian markets, while in the Vietnam market Indonesia is in a Falling position. Indonesia's comparative competitiveness in the Dutch and US markets is quite high. However, competitively, Indonesian nutmeg does not have competitiveness. The position of Indonesian nutmeg in the Dutch market is in the Retreat position. Meanwhile, in the US market, it is in a Lost Opportunity position. The results of the CMS analysis show that the determinants of export growth in China are the competitiveness effect, in India the commodity composition effect, in Vietnam the market distribution effect, in the Netherlands the competitiveness effect, and in the United States the commodity composition effect. Improving the performance and competitiveness of Indonesian nutmeg in the world, especially in the main exporting countries, can be done in various aspects, namely improving product quality and quality, providing access to information, and learning from other countries.
