Abstract

Entrepreneurial intention is the desire, interest, and willingness of individuals to work hard in creating and running a business to fulfill their life needs without fear of the risks that will occur, while the intention of social entrepreneurship is a strong desire and effort to realize business activities whose main priority is to reduce existing social problems and do not give priority to individual benefits. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of empathy, income expectations, and family environment on social entrepreneurship intentions with entrepreneurship education as a moderating variable. The population in this study were students of the Department of Economics Education, Faculty of Economics, Semarang State University, class of 2019 and 2020, with a total of 709 students. The sample was determined using the slovin formula, so that a sample of 256 students was obtained. The sampling technique used is proportional random sampling. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire with the Google form tool. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and SEM-PLS analysis. The analysis uses the WarpPLS 8.0 tool. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis of social entrepreneurship intentions, income expectations, family environment, and entrepreneurship education are classified as high, then the results of the descriptive statistical analysis of empathy are classified as very high. The results of the study show that the family environment has no effect on social entrepreneurship intentions. However, empathy and income expectations influence the intention of social entrepreneurship, then entrepreneurship education is not able to moderate the relationship between the family environment and the intention of social entrepreneurship. The conclusions from this study are empathy and income expectations can influence social entrepreneurship intentions, and entrepreneurship education is able to moderate the relationship between empathy and income expectations on social entrepreneurship intentions. However, the family environment cannot influence social entrepreneurship intentions and entrepreneurship education is unable to moderate the relationship between income expectations and social entrepreneurship intentions. Suggestions for students are expected to increase social awareness and be sensitive to existing business opportunities. This can be done by attending various entrepreneurship seminars, joining organizations related to entrepreneurship or sharing directly with entrepreneurs.
